Introducing Scratch Match™
December 15, 2025
Scratch Match™ is a visual tool for choosing the right touch-up paint repair kit. Swipe right through real scratch examples to match your damage and see the recommended kit.
Why we built Scratch Match
Customers often know their paint code but not which repair kit fits their damage. Our customer support team saw these same questions every day and helped shape a tool that answers them clearly and visually:
Do I need a bottle or aerosol kit?
Do I need primer for this scratch?
Scratch Match gives customers the same guidance our support team relies on—without waiting for an email reply.
The tool displays real on-vehicle scratches—tagged by size, depth, and location—to represent the most common types of damage that our support team sees every day:
- Shallow and deep scratches
- Long scratches and small scratches
- Rough scrapes
- Clusters of tiny rock chips
- One or two rock chips
- Bare metal or plastic where primer is required
You can load all examples in the default view or use the sorting buttons to see small, medium, or large scratches only. By visually comparing your scratch to the examples, you make a confident, accurate kit choice before reaching checkout.
Scratch Match is intentionally forgiving — you can’t make a wrong turn or get stuck.
Scratch Match wasn’t designed as a marketing widget—it was built from real support interactions with tens of thousands of customers. The result is a frictionless tool that reduces confusion, prevents returns, and helps customers complete repairs correctly the first time.
The tool works for all colors and vehicle types, and pairs with our OEM-matched formulas to ensure a consistent repair experience.

FAQ: Scratch Match
What if I’m still unsure after using Scratch Match?
You can upload a photo of your scratch to Support—our team can confirm the kit type for your damage.
Does Scratch Match work for metallic or pearl colors?
Yes. Scratch Match is about scratch type and depth, not color formulation.
Does Scratch Match help with paint code selection?
No—the tool helps with kit selection. If you need help finding your paint code, use our Paint Codes locator or contact Support.
Do I need primer if Scratch Match recommends a Preferred or Complete kit?
Yes. The Preferred and Complete kits both include primer. If your damage shows bare metal or plastic and you find a similar scratch in Scratch Match, follow the recommendation.
